It's great to have you here. Gartenkern is gardening software for people who take their gardening seriously: whether it's an allotment (Kleingarten), a raised bed on the balcony, a nursery, or just a few pots on the terrace. We are currently building something that will accompany your garden for years, not just for a single season.
This first entry is a brief welcome: what Gartenkern aims to be, and what happens next.
What Gartenkern is
Imagine a memory for your garden. You map out your beds, pots, rows, and greenhouses graphically, exactly as they are positioned. Along with that, you track what grows in them: plants, varieties, trees, complete with photos, notes, and everything you observe year after year.
Over time, this data turns into something valuable: you'll see when the Tomato 'Berner Rose' was first put into the ground last year, which variety survived the wet summer, and when the first frost arrived.

That is exactly what Gartenkern is designed for: it remembers things that you might have long since forgotten. Which heirloom variety yielded well, which location was too shady, or when the currant (Johannisbeere) really started to take off for the first time.
Some things only become apparent after several seasons. A location that seemed perfect in the first year turns out to be too dry by the third. A variety you almost gave up on suddenly produces a bountiful harvest. Recognizing these patterns is the true value of a garden journal, and it's why we want to take that task off your hands.
And: Gartenkern is ad-free. Your garden is not an advertising space.
The Beta is coming soon
We are close to launching the testing phase. In the coming weeks, we will open Gartenkern to an initial group of gardeners, available on the web and natively for Android and iOS.
