About this variety

Machine-translated, may contain errors.

The original jostaberry is a thornless cross between blackcurrant and gooseberry and thus the easygoing classic for the bed. It grows strongly and broadly, so it needs a little space, but it repays you with heavy crops and great robustness against mildew and rust. The berries ripen in midsummer and the bush is self fertile, so a single plant will crop. A second Josta bush or a currant nearby does noticeably increase the yield, though.

Mildly tart with a hint of the sharp currant aroma but none of its severity. Pleasantly juicy fresh from the bush; cooked down it develops a dark, rounded berry flavour.
